Making a difference for our members

Our approach

We go in to bat for our members on a range of issues affecting the real estate and property management profession, from housing supply to compliance, to vaccine mandates. Whenever there’s a potential change, we’re there to represent our people on the front line.

REINZ stays up-to-date with policy and upcoming reform, and works hard to keep you informed. We engage across our membership, with industry leaders and stakeholders, and harness their collective might to influence Government policies.

To ensure our voice is heard, we make forceful submissions and lobby Ministers. REINZ also takes a proactive approach to media, representing our members’ views in a wide range of forums.

REINZ ensures you always know about proposed legal and regulatory changes and industry issues and understand what you can do to prepare before changes take effect.

Pushing back on excessive AML requirements

When the Government suggested real estate professionals should do due diligence on buyers/prospective buyers as well as their vendors, REINZ made strong written and oral submissions on behalf of our members in opposition.

Such a move would change the way property is transacted in New Zealand and introduce uncertainty and delays in every sale — impacting buyers and sellers.

We worked closely with the Ministry of Justice and the Department of Internal Affairs throughout, facilitating feedback from our members directly.

Our collective voice was heard and there is to be an analysis of where in the transaction the risk lies before there is any change to the status quo.
